Seventhly. Another important part of our work is to build up, and watch over, the souls that may be gathered.
In this work we shall do well to simplify our first instructions as much as possible, and to press the great principles of the Gospel upon the minds of the converts till they be thoroughly settled and grounded in the foundation of their hope towards God.
We must be willing to spend some time with them daily, if possible, in this work
We must have much patience with them, though they may grow very slowly in divine knowledge.
A real missionary becomes in a sense a father to his people.
Rom 1:8-12 First, I thank my God through Jesus Christ for you all, that your faith is spoken of throughout the whole world. For God is my witness, whom I serve with my spirit in the gospel of His Son, that without ceasing I make mention of you always in my prayers, making request if, by some means, now at last I may find a way in the will of God to come to you. For I long to see you, that I may impart to you some spiritual gift, so that you may be established – that is, that I may be encouraged together with you by the mutual faith both of you and me.
From Word For Today:
’Learn from me.’ Matthew 11:29 NKJV. Jesus said, ‘I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it’ (Matthew 16:18 NKJV). When He spoke those words, the religious leaders of His day were plotting His death, the society in which He lived was controlled by the might of Rome and His followers were common people.
Humanly speaking, what He promised was audacious, and the possibilities of it happening were zero.
But, His words came to pass. Two thousand years later, Jesus is the most quoted author in the world and many of our values are based on the principles He taught.
How did He do it? By mentoring others.
